Founded by the lively and dedicated Kristy Wong, Cubbies is here to make learning Cantonese exciting, engaging, and accessible for all. In just two years, our Bristol-based centre has blossomed into a vibrant community of over a hundred students of all ages who look forward to each lesson with curiosity and enthusiasm.

Ms. Kristy graduated in 2014 from The Education University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Primary Education, majoring in Chinese Education and minoring in Visual Arts. She also completed a one-year Higher Diploma in Early Childhood Education. After graduating, she began her career in education and worked as a primary school teacher at a government-subsidized school in Hong Kong for nearly eight years.

In 2020, she moved to the UK to start a new chapter in her career. Like many immigrants, she initially felt lost and unsure of her direction. Eventually, she joined the Nursery Department of the prestigious Clifton College in Bristol as a Nursery Practitioner. Although working in early childhood education was joyful, she couldn’t let go of her passion for Chinese education. Encouraged by Hong Kong parents she met in the UK, she decided to take a leap of faith and founded Cubbies Chinese Learning Centre.

The beginning was extremely challenging, as there were no suitable Cantonese Chinese teaching materials available for children living overseas. Through this journey, she came to understand the struggles that overseas parents face when teaching their children Chinese. In order to help students learn more effectively, she began creating her own teaching materials. She personally handled every aspect—from course content, book selection, lessons, and homework to educational games. Her lively and engaging teaching style attracted more and more students over time.

The courses offered by Cubbies are specifically designed for overseas children, covering ages 3 through GCSE level. The program builds a complete learning pathway, helping children learn Chinese with clear goals and structure. Kristy is now actively building a team of teachers, aiming to train creative and engaging Chinese educators so that learning Chinese is no longer boring—and so more children can experience the joy of learning the language.

小獅子中文教室由充滿活力和熱誠的 Kristy Wong 創立，小獅子致力於讓粵語學習變得有趣、互動且每個小朋友都能參與。僅僅兩年，我們位於布里斯托的教室已經發展成一個充滿活力的學生社群，吸引了過百個各個年齡層的學生，大家都懷著好奇與熱情，期待每一堂課的到來。

Kristy 老師2014年畢業於香港教育大學小學教育榮譽學士（主修中文教育，副修視覺藝術），並曾修讀一年幼兒教育高級文憑。畢業後便投身教育行業，在香港的津貼小學任職了將近八年的小學老師。2020年來到了英國，重新發展事業。和很多移民一樣，一開始茫無頭緒，輾轉下加入了Bristol 名校Clifton College 的Nursery 部成為Nursery Practitioner。幼兒教育工作雖然開心，但我無法放下中文教育的專業，在所認識的香港人家長鼓勵下，決定放手一試，成立小獅子中文教室。可是起步極為困難，因為坊間並沒有一套適合海外兒童學習廣東話中文的教材，過程中明白到海外家長教討子女中文時的困境。為了學生更有效地學習，決定自擬教材，由課程內容、選書、堂課、課後練習及遊戲都由自己一手包辦，生動的教學風格亦使報讀學生的人數有增無減。小獅子的課程針對海外兒童而設計，涵蓋範圍由3歲至GCSE 程度，建立出一個完整的學習階梯，讓小朋友有目標及系統地學習。現時更積極建立教師團隊，希望培訓有創意及生動的中文教師，讓學童中文不再沉悶，並能讓更多的孩子享受學習中文的樂趣。
